The Metropolitan King County Council’s Committee of the Whole will be in Ravensdale Wednesday, April 6, for a special evening meeting that will focus on public safety and the policies that manage growth in unincorporated King County.

Committee members will get an update from King County Sheriff John Urquhart on the operations of the Sheriff’s Office in rural and Unincorporated King County.

The Town Hall will also be an opportunity for the public to learn more and comment on the 2016 update to the King County Comprehensive Plan, the set of policies that provides guidance on regional issues and services and manages growth in unincorporated King County.

“This meeting is intended to give unincorporated residents of King County the chance to let their insight known as the council works to make decisions about land use that will impact the area for the next four years,” said Council Vice Chair Reagan Dunn, whose district is hosting this special Town Hall meeting. “I am looking forward to hearing from residents and finding out ways to better serve our unincorporated communities.”

“I encourage everyone who’s interested in land-use issues to attend this meeting in order to stay up-to-date and informed on the Comp Plan process,” said Councilmember Kathy Lambert, chair of the Committee of the Whole. “This major update to the Plan occurs just once every four years, and this is an important opportunity for the public to recommend changes to this critical land use document. This document can be accessed online on the King County website.”

The Comprehensive Plan guides growth and development in Ravensdale and the other unincorporated areas of King County, and sets county policy on major issues such as annexations, transportation, and the environment.

If you cannot attend the meeting, residents can also submit written testimony online by visiting the King County Council’s Comprehensive Plan website. 

At the end of the program, the Council will take open public testimony on any issue.

Town Halls are a special meeting of the Council’s Committee of the Whole, the only standing committee on which all nine members serve. It considers legislation and policy issues of interest to the entire Council.
